Description:
Designed for students with little or no background in the Spanish language. SPAN 101 focuses on the acquisition of basic listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills within a cultural framework. Weekly laboratory attendance and assignments required.

Native and heritage speakers may not take Span 101 or 102. Any student with experience in Spanish beyond the classroom must take a written Placement Test to determine class placement. Those who have only taken one or two years of Spanish in a high school level must take an online Placement Test to ensure proper course placement. If a student with experience in Spanish registers into Span 101 or 102 without department permission, they may later be de-registered by the instructor. If you have any concerns about your placement or need help registering, please contact the LAIS department Language Program Director.
