Class Notes: The purpose of this course is to introduce students to the basic fundamentals of coaching, athletic administration, and equity-mindedness. The coaching portion of the course will introduce students to the importance of philosophies, human psychology, motivation, interpersonal communication, skill development, and adaptive strategy implementation. The athletic administration portion of the course will expose to students to responsibilities of being an administrator including understanding different units within an athletic department, managing a budget, short-term and long-term planning, and leading and developing staff and scholastic athletes. The equity-mindedness aspect of the course will focus on teaching students effective ways to foster diversity, equity, and inclusion within an athletic organization. Collectively, students will learn the skills necessary to be an equity-minded coach and athletic administrator across multiple levels of sport.
