This course asks why people rebel against a political order and what determines a state’s ability to stop the country from collapsing or falling into civil war. The first part of the course explores the reasons people obey the state; the second part examines theories of revolutions to understand how people justify their attempt to violently challenge state authority and overthrow a regime.
