REHAB 303 Rethinking Disability: Identity, Access, and Justice +
Description:
This course examines disability as a key dimension of human diversity and a social, political, and cultural construct rather than solely a medical condition. Using social and behavioral science frameworks, students explore how institutions such as education, labor markets, healthcare, law, and policy shape the lived experiences of people with disabilities. The course also analyzes how disability intersects with socioeconomic status to influence access to opportunity, including employment, housing, healthcare, and justice systems. Through the study of social structures, historical power relations, and lived experience, students critically evaluate contemporary debates about inclusion, rights, representation, and equity, developing an interdisciplinary understanding of disability and social justice in contemporary society.
