Description:
The Professional Nursing Concepts Capstone course is designed to prepare accelerated undergraduate nursing students for NCLEX success and a smooth transition into professional practice. Through engaging and integrative learning activities, students will synthesize key nursing concepts acquired throughout their program. Additionally, students will develop a comprehensive portfolio showcasing their academic and clinical accomplishments and prepare a professional resume in anticipation of graduation. General concepts covered in this course include: Leadership Development: The course emphasizes cultivating leadership skills essential for new nurses. It includes training in communication, conflict resolution, delegation, and managing change within healthcare settings. Interprofessional Communication: Students will learn how to effectively communicate with other healthcare professionals, which is crucial for collaborative patient care. Delegation: Understanding how to delegate tasks appropriately is a key leadership skill. This course will teach students how to assign responsibilities effectively to ensure efficient team functioning. Quality, Safety, and Teamwork: The course aims to instill concepts that promote a culture of quality and safety within healthcare teams. This includes working together to enhance patient care in complex healthcare systems. Core Concepts: The course reviews essential concepts such as accountability, clinical decision making, communication and collaboration, evidence-based practice, healthcare systems, managing care, professionalism, and teaching and learning. NCLEX Preparation: The course includes a focus on preparing for the NCLEX exam, with strategies for success, practice exercises, and remediation to ensure students are ready for licensure as professional nurses.
