The course material costs for this course are unknownThe purpose of the course is to provide a discussion on the economic development of Southeast Asian economies, giving an overview of the historical and contemporary factors that have shaped their experiences. Topics include colonialism and its impact on economic trajectories, the experience of industrialization, the role of democracy in economic growth and development in some of these economies, and the region's experiences with financial crises. The course will also feature some comparative discussions with East Asian economies.

The course material costs for this course are unknownThis elective course introduces students to how economists analyze topics related to the demand for health care, health disparities, and the US health care delivery system using the tools of microeconomics. Students develop an understanding of asymmetric information, how health insurance contracts operate, and the role that government plays in the modern health care system. Students empirically analyze health care policies and apply tools of cost-benefit analysis to understand the tradeoffs in improving efficiency and equity.

Game theory aims at the understanding of strategic interactions. Strategic interactions are those in which a participant has to consider others' actions in deciding their own best course of action. These kinds of interactions exist in all sorts of economic situations’competition between firms in an industry, negotiations between workers and employers, production or conservation of public goods, bidding strategies in auctions, and many others. The course uses some mathematical models, but the aim of the course is not to set up and solve math problems. It is to apply game-theory concepts to the understanding of real-world economic issues.This course uses low-cost course material which will cost less than $50.
